The Boys are facing a giant that they will never beat, and rather than telling the Boys how to beat it, Stan Edgar hopes to benefit from it. Edgar is still an enemy of the Boys because he hopes to utilize this system to benefit himself rather than help change it to benefit everyone, a decision that many real-life capitalists make every day.
We Finally Know What Stan Edgar's Endgame Is Now
Ever since Edgar was outed from Vought, we didn't really know what his plan was. Edgar has mostly been in hiding, attempting to avoid the wrath of Homelander. However, he has clearly been operating in the background. Edgar and Zoe have been running around involving themselves with the activities of the Boys, Vought, and the cast of Gen V. However, they clearly don't want to take down Vought, and they don't want to kill all supes. While this has left fans scratching their heads for years, we finally know what Edgar is up to.
During his speech, MM realizes Stan Edgar's true plan: he wants to take over Vought once all the supes are gone. While Edgar clearly has to keep his distance during Homelander's reign, he can easily step in and reclaim his position in the company once it's safe. Edgar understands Vought and the system of capitalism better than anyone else in The Boys, with this being his superpower. While he is helping the Boys due to the barrel of the gun now being turned on him, he still wants to be the one pointing the weapon in the end. So, he will probably be making moves as The Boys ends in order to get back into the seat of power.
However, there is a chance that he could be stopped. MM plainly says that he will put a bullet in Edgar's head if he attempts to take over Vought, making things between him and the Boys even more hostile. The Boys could kill Edgar by the end of the show, preventing him from being the captain of Vought once again. Edgar betrayed the Boys by leaving them to be killed by the Deep and Black Noir, and while this plan backfired, it gives the Boys reason to hunt Edgar down and get revenge.
However, the Boys may not get an opportunity to hunt Edgar down. At the end of episode 3, he is subdued and captured by Black Noir, who is subsequently knocked out by the Deep. The Deep takes Stan Edgar to Homelander, meaning that he is now a prisoner of the Seven. There is a high chance that Edgar could be killed by Homelander or one of the other supes, meaning that his plan to take over Vought won't work out.

However, it'll be hard for the world of The Boys to continue without supes. If supes are gone, Vought will have to switch to a different product. A The Boys TV show about characters taking down Vought cell phones that have built-in planned obselence isn't nearly as fun as Butcher and Homelander getting into superpowered fights, so it wouldn't work as a spinoff. It seems likely that either supes will live on after the events of The Boys, or that the spinoffs will be prequels, like the upcoming Vought Rising TV show.

The Boys' Version of Iron Man Is Its Most Unique Hero (& It's Not Close)
Arguably the entire point of The Boys is to mock superheroes in the most grisly and insulting ways possible, which includes shining a light on the fact that they, too, can be terrible people, and given that they’re super, they’d be the worst kind of terrible. However, The Boys’ parody of Iron Man actually stands out in that regard, making him The Boys most unique hero (by far).
The Boys’ version of Iron Man is named Tek Knight, who’s actually more of a cross between Batman and Iron Man, but who is easily more reminiscent of Tony Stark given his fully mechanical suit of armor (both in aesthetic and function). However, there’s one main difference between Iron Man and Tek Knight that’s a bit disturbing: Tek Knight has an uncontrollable desire to be sexually intimate with basically anyone or anything in front of him. It’s for this reason that he can’t have a sidekick, and doesn’t even work with other superheroes, because he knows how little control he has over his urges and doesn’t want to assault anyone as a result. And that, right there, is why Tek Knight is different from practically every other supe in The Boys universe: he’s actually a good guy.
Tek Knight Is One Of The Only Good Supes In The Boys
In The Boys #7-10 by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Tek Knight is introduced and his story arc is told in its entirety. The issues go into how Tek Knight doesn’t have any superpowers (like his Iron Man and Batman Marvel/DC counterparts), but still wanted to be a hero in a world where only those with powers can seemingly make a difference. However, it was during his escapades with other heroes that he learned of his debilitating disease, and essentially had to retire as a result. The idea of a superhero with a sex addiction so intense that they can’t have a sidekick or work with other superheroes for fear of assaulting them (which he regrettably did to his own butler) is undeniably gross and deviant. However, the tragic truth of the situation was that Tek Knight’s urges came from a brain tumor, meaning he had absolutely no control over himself or the urges that plagued him.
Not only did Tek Knight suffer from a brain tumor that essentially turned him into an aggressive sex addict who’s unfit to even be around other people (a brain tumor readers eventually learn is terminal), but he actively fought to keep others around him safe from himself. When it became apparent that he couldn’t control himself, Tek Knight immediately separated himself from those around him, and went into isolation for their sake. Any other supe in The Boys would not have been that accommodating, as most other supes are regularly shown engaging in violent sex acts throughout the series with no remorse for the damage they cause as a result. Tek Knight physically can’t help his condition, but even still, he took full responsibility for it and implemented measures to keep those around him safe, proving that he’s actually a good person in a world filled with superheroes who are decidedly not.
It seems as though Tek Knight may be adapted in The Boys live-action series, and if that’s actually the case, then the truest depiction of his nature needs to be translated from the comics to the show, which is something that separates this Iron Man parody from practically every other supe in The Boys: Tek Knight is actually a good person.
The Boys Season 4's New The Seven Team Teased By Vought Ahead Of SDCC Panel: "The Seven Has NEVER Been Stronger"
Ahead of their scheduled panel at 2023’s San Diego Comic-Con, The Boys season 4 has teased a new line-up for their Vought superhero team known as The Seven. Throughout the events of The Boys season 3, Vought’s premiere superhero team led by Antony Starr’s Homelander saw its ranks significantly diminished. In addition to Starlight’s defection from Vought’s ranks, season 3 also saw Dominique McElligott’s Maeve fake her own death and Homelander kill Black Noir in a fit of rage.
With a few months now gone since production wrapped, the official Twitter account of the fictional corporation Vought International is hinting at revamped team line-up for The Boys season 4.

Featuring an image of the three remaining members of The Seven, Homelander, A-Train, and The Deep, the edited season 2 image also includes a returning Black Noir, whose death is set to be covered up by having a new Supe take his place. The post also promises that Homelander is busy searching for more Supes to join his team’s ranks.
Who Will Join The Seven In The Boys Season 4?
With The Seven now looking for three new members to bring the team back to its full strength, audiences are keen to know who will be joining the show’s roster of corrupt superheroes. Two of those three vacant slots are most likely going to be taken by a pair of new characters that were first announced in October last year. Orange is the New Black’s Susan Heyward and The Lost Symbol’s Valorie Curry have previously been announced as two new Supes, known respectively as Sister Sage and Firecracker.
At the moment, little is known about Heyward and Curry’s characters, both of which are original characters with no direct correlation in the original comics. The bigger mystery will be who is destined to fill the seventh and remaining slot on the team. While it seems unlikely that Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy would be in the running to round out the team, another option may be the mysterious unnamed character played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. With many fan theories postulating his potential casting as the Supe Tek Knight, he could be a good contender.
Another option may stem from the upcoming spinoff series Gen V, which will introduce a younger generation of Supes training at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. With the spinoff set to arrive before The Boys season 4, it is possible that this new series may even introduce an up-and-coming Supe graduate who moves across to the flagship show. Either way, audiences may learn more when The Boys make their appearance later this month at the SDCC.

How LOTR: Rings Of Power Actually Revealed Sauron's Identity In Its First 2 Episodes
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power composer Bear McCreary opened up about the secret trick used to reveal Halbrand is Sauron in the show's first two episodes. Set in the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power showcases the forging of the titular Rings and the start of the Dark Lord Sauron's reign. Season 1 ended by revealing Halbrand, who was Galadriel's trusted ally, was actually Sauron the entire time.
Speaking with Screen Rant in an exclusive interview, McCreary explained how music was a big hint at Halbrand's true identity, even in the first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. He revealed Sauron and Halbrand share the same theme song, which was also composed with the One Ring in mind. Check out McCreary's full statement below:
It's interesting because I did give it away, if you are paying enough attention. Sauron's theme is Halbrand's theme backward. Same thing. [singing] Same thing. And I'm so obvious about it, I just state it over and over.
With that said, the colors are very different. The context is very different, but the clues are there. Every character has these big leaps and giant phrases that soar except Sauron. His is very circular; it's a ring. [singing] It comes back to the same note it started on over and over and over. Halbrand's does too, and I think even your subconscious mind might notice that of all our protagonists, this is the only theme that's small. But I'm trying my best to trick you. I'm using harmony and context, going, 'No, no, no, no. He's a hero. Don't pay attention to the notes.'
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1 ending saw Sauron attempt to turn Galadriel to his side, promising she would become his queen. However, Galadriel refused, forcing Sauron to travel to the newly-created Mordor alone. There's no doubt Sauron will encounter the dark Elf Adar and his legion of Orcs. However, it's unlikely Sauron will ally with Adar due to the Elf's claims of killing Sauron earlier in the series.
Now that Halbrand has revealed himself to be Sauron, it calls into question how the rest of the Rings of Power will be forged throughout the series. While three Rings were created in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1, episode 8, "Alloyed," Tolkien's work indicates Sauron is involved in creating the rest of the Rings as well. It's likely that season 2 will show Sauron disguising himself as someone else to trick the Elves into making more rings.
While it may not be shown in season 2, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power also builds up when Sauron forges the One Ring, the Ring that binds all other Rings to itself. As the series continues, Sauron is destined to rise to power in Middle-earth, all thanks to the Rings of Power. It should prove interesting to see where Sauron's story goes when The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power continues.
The Boys Stars Recount the Chaos of Shooting Herogasm
The Boys stars Erin Moriarty and Jensen Ackles explained how shooting the superhero series' infamous "Herogasm" episode took its toll on both the cast and crew.
Per Variety, during a Prime Video FYC panel, the two stars discussed their experiences filming "Herogasm for The Boys Season 3. "It was like walking into an orgy house," Moriarty said. She further described how the set was plagued by a variety of adult toys then. "There were things and shapes that I thought, 'These would pierce an organ, most people wouldn't survive them.' But of course, they exist," the actor continued. "I don't understand, but I learned a lot." Ackles later claimed that Moriarty "looked like [she] had just come out of war" while filming "Herogasm."
What Jensen Ackles Recalls From Herogasm
As for Ackles himself, the Soldier Boy actor explained how crew members behind the cameras were not spared from the grueling experience either. "When I saw our camera operator outside, he was just staring at the ground," Ackles recounted. "I went up and said, 'Hey Liam, what's up, how's it going up there?' And he said, 'I've seen some shit man.' He was traumatized, and they did not prep me either." Ackles said the set began to "smell like old sex after a while," and admitted that nothing could have prepared him for the shoot. He continued, "There's some shit that I shot that didn't even make the final cut and I'm like, 'Really, you made me do that, you knew you weren't gonna use it, but you made me do that anyway?'"
Inspired by the titular tie-in miniseries for the original The Boys comics created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson, "Herogasm" remains one of the most infamous episodes of Prime Video's television adaptation. As its name implies, the episode involves a superhero orgy and features some of the most graphic scenes of the entire show. However, unlike the Herogasm comic miniseries, the episode also shows fans a major, choreographed standoff between Ackles' Soldier Boy, Homelander (Antony Starr), Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid).
The Boys Showrunner on Why Herogasm Needed to Be an Event
The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke previously discussed how he envisioned "Herogasm," stating that the notorious episode needed to be a major event for The Boys Season 3. He explained how he wanted Herogasm to leave a strong impression on fans without relying solely on its graphic content. "It's every bit as shocking as [fans] are expecting it to be, but not at all in the way they think it's going to be," Kripke said in May 2023. "And that was really intentional; I enjoyed having something that had that much event in it."

Starlight actor Erin Moriarty teased that The Boys season 4 will explore various character developments. Based on the comic book created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, Prime Video's television adaptation recently wrapped filming on season 4 in April 2023. Picking up after the season 3 finale, season 4 will see Vought’s flagship superhero team introduce several new faces following Maeve's staged death and Starlight’s defection from The Seven. Meanwhile, Black Noir actor Nathan Mitchell is also set to play a new version of his character after Homelander brutally killed the original masked Supe for withholding information about his father.
Speaking with Collider, Moriarty revealed that The Boys season 4 would continue to provide background information about the show’s unique roster of characters. The Boys Season 4 Can’t Outdo Season 3’s Shocking Opening Scene - But Shouldn't Try To
While The Boys season 4 will likely feature some seriously gross moments, the comic adaptation shouldn’t front load these the way the show did in season 3's infamous opening scene. The Boys has always been a gross show. An adaptation of Garth Ennis’s comic book series of the same name, The Boys satirizes superhero tropes with a healthy helping of disgusting humor. The goriest deaths in the series are usually played for dark laughs, whether it is Kimiko beating multiple men to death with dildos or Homelander blowing a civilian’s head to shreds in public before a baying crowd. However, this isn’t always a good thing.
One thing that makes The Boys better than its comic inspiration is the fact that the series is not as gratuitous as its source material. The Boys tended to go too far from time to time in its original comic incarnation, and some of the comic’s grossest shocks wouldn’t have translated to television. Anyone who has read the deeply upsetting scene where Butcher (the ostensible hero of the series) beats a super-powered baby to death will know that The Boys comic sometimes leaned into shock value for its own sake. To its credit, The Boys television show indulges this creative impulse less often. However, it is still an issue for the show.
The Boys Season 3’s Opening Set The Bar Too High For Graphic Scenes
While relatively quick, Termite’s accidental killing is still extremely cringe-worthy. It is a gory moment on par with Glenn’s death in The Walking Dead or The Mountain Vs The Viper sequence from Game of Thrones, and will likely go down in infamy as a similarly shocking moment in television history. However, the fact that season 3 featured this as its opening scene left The Boys with nowhere to go later in the outing. While The Boys season 3, episode 6, “Herogasm.” was a fun outing, the episode was nowhere near as shocking as viewers anticipated. The season wouldn’t have felt so tame if the opening scene of The Boys season 3 hadn’t set such a high bar.
The Boys Season 4 Shouldn’t Try To Match S3's Horrifying Opening
While The Boys’ "evil Superman" Homelander could instantly one-up Termite’s gruesome misdeed in season 4’s opening scene, this is not the approach the adaptation should take. It is easy for viewers to become inured to shocking violence and this can lead to showrunners and writers constantly trying to up the ante. This doomed attempt at beating last season’s viral shock can result in scenes that feel more tasteless and tactless than necessary, as evidenced when Game of Thrones mishandled Sansa’s rape one season after the Viper’s demise. While The Boys generally handles triggering content better than earlier television shows, the adaptation isn’t immune to this risk.
The Boys Season 4 Must Start Slow (Before It Gets Gross Again)
The best way for The Boys season 4 to shock audiences would be for the show to start slower this time and hold off on gory shocks until at least the end of the premiere. This would effectively lull viewers into a false sense of security, leaving them feeling like season 4 may simply be less intense than its predecessor. The Boys has previously thrived on including scenes that audiences would never expect or think would be allowed on screen while remaining engaging. Thus, by holding off a little at the start, The Boys can restore that balance.
As things stand, viewers will enter The Boys season 4 expecting the grossest, most disgusting visuals possible. As a result, even the most appalling imagery won't have much impact on viewers expecting more gore, more shocking images, and more boundary-pushing content. Paradoxically, extreme gross-out moments will likely put new viewers off the show, meaning The Boys season 4 could alienate potential audience members while failing to shock longtime fans. As such, the best thing for The Boys season 4 to do is to start slowly before shocking viewers all over again with more gross delights once their defenses are down.
How The Rings of Power's Newest Setting Sets Up Future LOTR Conflicts
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power had its fair share of detractors, but there was one aspect that no one could hate on: the beautiful and evocative settings. Season 1 introduced fans to the Elven cities of Lindon and Eregion. The pair of cities perfectly embodied the regality of the Eldar. Likewise, Khazad-dûm personified the pomp and brashness of Dwarvish society. Finally, Númenor shown with a splendor that foreshadowed Minas Tirith from The Lord of the Rings.
The Rings of Power's last setting was the Southlands. It wasn't an exciting place, but it was the location of Season 1's most consequential storyline: the creation of Mordor. In "Udûn," Adar's plan came to fruition. Using a magic sword, he ignited Mount Doom, destroying the Southlands and creating Mordor in one fell swoop. The creation of the evil realm left a lot of people without a home. Thus, Bronwyn decided relocate the Southlanders the city of Pelargir. Here's why that location is important in the LOTR universe.
Multiple Lord of the Rings Fights Took Place in Pelargir
Pelargir was a pretty important city in The Lord of the Rings. It was one of the earliest Númenórean settlements in Middle-earth, but over time, it became a place of refuge. Many of the Faithful went to Pelargir to escape persecution from the King's Men. When it was built, it was a port city at the mouth of the Anduin River. However, the catastrophic destruction of Númenor changed the coastline, which meant that Pelargir was 50 miles inland by LOTR's time period.
Even inland, Pelargir remained an important city. As Gondor's strength grew, Pelargir was its chief port, and under the Ship-kings, Pelargir became the home of Gondor's navy. Over time, Pelargir became weaker because of repeated attacks by the Corsairs of Umbar. An attack even killed one of Gondor's kings. Luckily, all of that ended in The Return of the King, when Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli arrived at Pelargir. They had the Army of the Dead in-tow, which allowed the trio of heroes to liberate the city and commandeer the Corsair's ships.
Why Pelargir Will Be Important in The Rings of Power
If The Rings of Power follows LOTR canon, Pelargir will be important to the series. Moving there represents a new beginning for the Southlanders. Some of their ancestors had served Morgoth, and after the war, the Elves had watched everyone condescendingly. Unfortunately, there wasn't a good way to separate the evildoers from the innocents. But after the creation of Mordor, everything has become clear: anyone that stays in Mordor, serves Sauron, while everyone that moves to Pelargir does not.
Pelargir will also be the setting for Isildur's story. When Season 1 ended, everyone in-story assumed that he was dead, but fans knew that the future king was alive somewhere. Because the Númenóreans left him in the Southlands, it makes sense that he will have to fight his way back to Númenor, and going through Pelargir is the only way to do that. It will be interesting to see how Isildur survived the creation of Mordor and what he's been up to since then.
On another note, Pelargir will also be the setting for most of Bronwyn and Arondir's story. They made a great pair last season. So, having them back for Season 2 will ensure The Rings of Power's best relationship is maintained. All of those different plots run through the city of Pelargir, so it will clearly be a significant setting in Season 2.

The Boys season 3 continued the series’ established ability to shock audiences with both its unflinching depictions of brutal violence and its twists, but it revealed its ending turn a bit too early. A vital part of the pleasure associated with this cynical look at the superhero phenomenon has always been the revelation of some key piece of information, a big twist that changes everything viewers thought they knew about the series. In fact, it’s the anticipation of just what revelation will emerge that remains crucial to the appeal of The Boys.
The Boys is the kind of series that likes to keep something back, often waiting until the finale to unleash a shocking moment, increasing the stakes of the action and the next season. Such twists often involve a brutal death that shakes up existing power relations within the series, like Homelander’s lasering of Madelyn Stillwell in The Boys season 1. How The Peripheral's Post-Credits Scene Sets Up Season 2
Following a breathless finale, The Peripheral season 1 drops a post-credits scene that completely redefines the narrative's future. The Peripheral's season 1 finale breaks down into a tug-of-war between Flynne Fisher from 2032 and Dr. Cherise Nuland from futuristic London. Cherise is looking to eliminate the Research Institute's secret data by destroying Flynne's timeline. Flynne, understandably, is less keen on that idea, and hatches a plan to save her world without sacrificing the precious R.I. data that could prevent the apocalypse. Aligning with the well-spoken Met officer Ainsley Lowbeer, Flynne achieves her goal by creating a new stub before sacrificing herself in the original stub, protecting her world, but surviving.
The main story of Amazon Prime Video's The Peripheral season 1 finale concludes with Flynne and Inspector Lowbeer reuniting in the future, but their team-up soon bleeds into a post-credits sequence focused on JJ Feild's Lev Zubov, who remains suspiciously missing throughout the remainder of the episode. Zubov is unexpectedly visited by higher-ranking members of the Klept mafia he belongs to. Showing their macabre sense of humor, the Klept feigns displeasure with Zubov's infiltration of the Research Institute, making him beg for forgiveness. The Klept Will Be More Important In The Peripheral Season 2
The Klept has stayed largely invisible throughout The Peripheral season 1. Lurking in the background, only Lev Zubov and his associates have represented the future timeline's criminal fraternity thus far, but The Peripheral's post-credits scene promises to redress that deficit in season 2. From the shadows, the shady gangsters are evidently keeping tabs on the situation surrounding Flynne Fisher's 2032 stub, and are now primed to take a more active role in The Peripheral's narrative. All of their pranks aside, Zubov looks to be on delicate ground with the Klept, and more members could descend upon him unless the organization's "loose end" concerns are addressed.
The Peripheral's post-credits sequence also creates a veil of mystery around Lev Zubov's father. As yet unseen in The Peripheral, Lev's dad is mentioned by Aelita West as the man responsible for murdering her and Wilf's families alongside countless others, and The Peripheral's season finale post-credits then confirms Zubov Sr. is still alive. Curiously, the three Klept visitors tell Lev that his father is unable to attend due to being "not in the best health." Such phrases inevitably sound more ominous when spoken by organized criminals, and The Peripheral tacitly suggests Lev Zubov's father may have fallen from grace among other members of the Klept.
What The Peripheral Season 1 Finale Post-Credits Means For Flynne & Wilf
The Klept higher-ups do not appear in The Peripheral just to share a drink and tease Lev Zubov. Instead, the Klept wants Zubov to cut all ties to the Research Institute and 2032 stub timeline, giving itself plausible deniability for Lev's recent meddling with the past. In practice, this means killing everyone who could tie Zubov to his crimes, and while no names are mentioned, that list includes Wilf Netherton, Flynne Fisher, Burton Fisher, Conner Penske, Aelita West, and Ash and Ossian. The complexion of The Peripheral season 2 is now completely altered. Lev and Flynne cooperated awkwardly before; now, the villain will be looking to "cauterize" former assets.
The Klept could now become the main antagonistic force of The Peripheral season 2, assuming the role previously held by the Research Institute. With the Klept threatening his wife and children, Lev Zubov is left with no choice but to send assassins after the aforementioned conspirators, if he can find them. While this poses a problem for Flynne and her friends, the timing is more fortuitous than appears at first glance. Flynne's mother's illness coming back means she no longer holds an agreement with the arrogant oligarch, and Wilf recently discovered the Klept was responsible for massacring his family. All bets are off between both sides.
At the same time, however, Ash has forged an agreement of her own with the Research Institute's Cherise Nuland, the goal of which is to subtly assassinate Lev Zubov without inciting Klept suspicion. A fascinating three-way battle emerges thanks to The Peripheral's season 1 finale. Lev Zubov is targeting Flynne's protagonists, Flynne's protagonists are targeting the R.I., and the R.I. is targeting Lev Zubov. That cycle of violence looks unlikely to end happily for any party in The Peripheral season 2.
Lev Zubov Doesn't Want To Kill Wilf
A ruthless murderer Lev Zubov may be, but his relationship with Wilf Netherton is a strange beast in The Peripheral. Zubov has shown open disdain for Wilf throughout their scenes together, referring to him as a "family pet." Conversely, Zubov has also demonstrated a strange kinship with Wilf, standing by his man when most crime lords might cut him loose. Aelita may explain this strange dynamic in The Peripheral's season 1 finale. If Lev's father was responsible for killing Wilf's family and leaving him an orphan, Lev may be trying to atone by making Wilf his right-hand man, giving him well-paid work, and letting him dance intimately with his wife.
When the Klept elders order Lev Zubov to kill all assets in Amazon Prime Video's The Peripheral, Lev replies, "All of them?" The villain is almost certainly referring to Wilf here, showing a hesitancy to put down someone he considers a friend. Loathe though he clearly is to kill the ever-faithful Wilf, Lev Zubov has shown uncanny survival instincts and a massive selfish streak throughout The Peripheral, and these traits extend to the Klept as an organization. Just because Zubov feels more guilt about killing Wilf than he would Flynne or Ossian, the prospect of Klept leaders killing his entire family should he fail to comply is a powerful motivator.
The Peripheral Season 1's Post Credits Teases A Bigger Villain For S2
As far as The Peripheral has shown, the Research Institute buck stops with Cherise Nuland, leaving no authority larger than hers in the company hierarchy. The Peripheral season 1's post-credits scene proves this is absolutely not the case with Lev Zubov and the Klept, portraying JJ Feild's character as a minor cog in a much larger criminal machine. Zubov's evident fear when he spies three Klept seniors sitting where his father should be is testament enough to their influence, but the subsequent groveling apology and the way Dominika tells Lev she loves him before departing confirms these men far outrank Lev, the single Klept member The Peripheral had shown beforehand.
Even more ominously, The Peripheral offers no suggestion that the trio of men who accost Lev Zubov are the highest authority of the Klept family tree. Indeed, one might assume that a single overarching leader exists somewhere in The Peripheral's future, and the three post-credits scene elders report directly to them. If Lev Zubov fails to carry out his orders in The Peripheral season 2, leaving the likes of Flynne Fisher and Wilf Netherton running freely, this elusive leader may finally reveal themselves.

Prime Video’s long-awaited series Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, the latest project to borrow from J.R.R Tolkien’s well-loved Middle-earth, has taken the audience by storm. With well-executed references to canonical events, along with quite a number of backstories for events Tolkien’s ardent fans may be well-versed in, the series almost stands as an unofficial prequel of sorts.
The show’s latest episode, "The Great Wave", shines light on Queen Regent Miriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and her father Tar-Palantir’s knowledge of the prophecy regarding the doom of Númenor. According to the Queen, the prophecy would be set in motion upon an elf’s arrival — a rather explicit hinting towards Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) — and the source of this futuristic bit of information is none other than — a palantir!
Ardent fans of Tolkiens’ works are no stranger to the spherical crystals called palantiri (plural for palantir), objects of great power holding the ability to let their master glimpse beyond their own realm of time. Translated to “far-sighted” in Quenya, —the language of the Elves — the palantiri have remained instrumental in aiding the events of The Lord of the Rings — and now that The Rings of Power has introduced its own spin on the unbreakable Seeing Stones, their hype has never been realer! With that being established, here is all that we know about the crystal balls.
What Is the Significance of the Palantiri in Middle-Earth?
Created by Tolkien as the Seven Stones, to go with the well-known Seven Stars symbol commonly believed by the Elves as a signal to the downfall of Morgoth, the palantiri allude to the genius of the great author, and his attention down to the minutest of details, in birthing the vast fantasy world spanning over millennia.
Canonically speaking, the indestructibly mighty palantiri are believed to be created by the Elves of Valinor during the First Age, and by the time the events of The Lord of The Rings start to roll around, somewhere during the Third Age, only a handful haven’t already fallen victim to time’s wear and tear— a fact that continues to stand in Peter Jackson’s film trilogy of the same name.
How Do Palantiri Work?
In Tolkien's writing, although a vast number of palantiri were created, the great Elendil, following the destruction of Númenor, carries only seven to Middle-earth — namely the Osgilath stone; the largest and chief among all; the Annuminas-stone, placed in a city of the same name; the Itnil-stone, later channeled by Sauron; the Orthanc stone, a cause for the wizard Saruman’s ultimate downfall; the Anor-stone, held by Denethor as he takes his own life; the Amon Sul-stone, unable to be lifted ‘by one man alone’; and finally the Elostirian stone, uniquely lacking in its ability to communicate with the other stones.
It is understood that a palantir harbors the dual ability to let one communicate with another wielder of the stone, as well as look back/glimpse ahead into time, but there’s quite an interesting bit of twist in the tale! The palantiri respond to their master’s power, and should their channelers be knowledgeable enough as to place the great object in the most favorable spots — the stones are not known to do well in darkness, for instance — they could potentially look into any part of the world!
Additionally, although the palantiri cannot technically ‘lie’ in terms of upcoming or previous events, those with corrupt intentions can quite easily use them to present half-truths by concealing the context and a deliberate chunk of the story; thus setting off chaotic events throughout the timeline. In fact, in several instances, deceptive or otherwise, the palantiri have indeed shaped Middle-earth into what it is today.
The Palantiri Is Often Used for Evil
The antagonist Sauron, uses the palantiri to his own advantage on several occasions, influencing the visions they are showing others. The Dark Lord is well aware that some palantiri are lost, and puts that bit of knowledge to personal gain, warping the stones’ produced images to monitor and weaken his opposition. At one point, he is able to influence Saruman, instructing him to build an army “worthy of Mordor” once completely in control of the being. On a separate occasion, his altered visions to Denethor cause the latter to believe all is lost, thus leading the man to take his own life.
In The Two Towers, when Pippin, upon having had a taste of the power of the crystal, steals it from a sleeping Gandalf, his peeking into it sets off a plethora of wrongful assumptions and half-assessments by Sauron, looking through his own seeing stone. Knowing that the One Ring is in the hands of a hobbit, Sauron assumes the hobbit in question is none other than Pippin himself — and that he’s been captured by Saruman. The Ring, therefore, being as good as Sauron’s, who has been working alongside him.
Consequently, the instance of Aragorn looking into Saruman’s palantir has the peeking Sauron believe that the ranger has been defeated, with the ring and palantir stolen, when that could not have been farther from the truth, since the ring is being held by Frodo. The courageous Aragorn challenges Sauron in a battle of wills, rousing him by virtually presenting to him the Sword of Elendil, the sword that first defeated Sauron's physical form. Understandably not one to be up for such humiliation for a second time, Sauron goes after Aragorn, retrieving his forces from Mordor and allowing Frodo easy access, while unknowingly turning his back on a war he could easily have emerged victorious in. In many ways, then, his second defeat is relatively more humiliating.
Over time, the palantiri have proved to be a tool most helpful, if rather consequent, in their deceptiveness. But, what is most interesting is the fact that being one of the vital, almost to the point of being sacred, parts of Tolkien's lore, they have made their official entrance into The Rings of Power, which is sure to make any fan's mind run wild on what their further role will be in the series.
