Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Gets Release Date Update After Indefinite Delay

Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse gets a release date update after the movie was delayed indefinitely. As part of Sony's Marvel movie release date changes, it was revealed that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse would not be released on its original March 29, 2024, release date. The third film in the animated Spider-Man trilogy was removed from Sony's release schedule, with no hints of when it could be released.

During an interview with Digital Spy, Spider-Verse franchise writers/producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller shared a new update regarding Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's release date. According to the duo, the movie will release "when it is ready". Lord explained the lack of a concrete release date for the film in their answer, saying, "Those conversations are thankfully above our paygrade, but I can tell you we're already hard at work on it, and we'll take the time it takes to make it great."

Why Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Was Delayed

Hollywood is currently undergoing two major strikes that have deeply affected a wide array of movies and TV shows, and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is another victim of the situation. The Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes have stopped the work of writers and actors, which has caused several projects to get delayed or pause production indefinitely.

When it was announced that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse had been delayed, Variety reported that the move was because the film's voice cast, which includes Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, among others, could not complete the dialogue recording for the animate trilogy's finale in time for the original March 29, 2024, release date due to the ongoing actors' strike.

Another possible reason that could have impacted the movie being delayed indefinitely is related to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's bad working conditions report. The report from Vulture saw a worker on the movie claim that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse would never meet its original release date, saying, "as far as the production side goes, the only progress that’s been made on the third one is any exploration or tests that were done before the movie was split into two parts." The film was then delayed a month later, and it's likely that any Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse release date updates will only come after the actors' strike is over.

Across the Spider-Verse Writer Shares Advice in Response to Audio Complaints

While moviegoers who saw Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse revel in its story, fans of the animated blockbuster complained about being unable to hear all of that story play out, an issue one of its scribes noted.

Per Collider, co-writer Phil Lord took to Twitter to address fan concerns about being unable to hear some of the dialogue during Across the Spider-Verse as there were clear sound mix issues. Sony's creative team has been made aware of the audio problems and Lord gave his suggestions to ensure a better experience when seeing the movie, including getting to theaters early to make sure management adjusts the volume accordingly. "Spider-Verse friends! if you get to the theater early and you want a fun mission, ask someone to check that the theater volume is set at reference (7)! If it sounds a bit quiet, invite them to turn it up a touch to 7.5! If they give you flack... tell them we said it was okay," he said. "7 is the standard we mix to. 7.5 might be better in a full house. It’s a very dynamic and comfortable mix so you can play it loud and proud."

The sound problems are evident in Across the Spider-Verse from the start. During the opening scene, Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) recaps her life and various events before its beginning. However, Gwen does this recapping while playing drums with her band and audiences can't hear what she's saying as something is wrong with the sound mix. Instead of the issue being with a particular screening, fans who attended various cinemas noticed the same problem and made their thoughts known.

Across the Spider-Verse at the Box Office
Despite that technical flaw, Across the Spider-Verse has otherwise garnered rave reviews, becoming a resounding critical success while on track to smash franchise box-office records. During its opening weekend, the Into the Spider-Verse sequel earned $125 million domestically, the second-highest take by a North American title in its first three days this year behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($146 million). Worldwide, Across the Spider-Verse has made over $208 million, putting it well on course to surpass Into the Spider-Verse's final tally of $384.3 million following its 2018 premiere.

As of this writing, Across the Spider-Verse boasts a 95% critical rating and 96% audience score via Rotten Tomatoes, with some reviews branding it as one of the best superhero movies ever made, praising it for its storytelling, action and visual appeal. The film sees Miles Morales (Shamiek Moore) and Gwen travel through the multiverse to stop a potential catastrophe at the hands of the Spot (Jason Schwartzman) that threatens to wipe out hordes of Spider-People. Lord co-wrote Across the Spider-Verse alongside long-time creative partner Christopher Miller, and David Callaham.

Across the Spider-Verse also stars Oscar Isaac (Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099), Daniel Kaluuya (Hobart "Hobie" Brown/Spider-Punk), Issa Rae (Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman) and Karan Soni (Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India). Almost 100 named characters appear in Across the Spider-Verse, which is one of the longest animated titles ever made at 2 hours and 20 minutes. The film also precedes the next sequel in the Spider-Verse franchise, with Beyond the Spider-Verse expected to premiere on Mar. 29, 2024.

Across the Spider-Verse is now showing in theaters.

When Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Start Streaming?

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally here, but when will fans be able to watch it at home on streaming, digital, Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD?

After five years since the award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swung into theaters and the hearts of fans around the world, the Miles Morales-led sequel has finally arrived in theaters to massive acclaim.

Across the Spider-Verse continues to expand the animated franchise with a host of new Spider-People through a Multiversal group led by Oscar Isaac's Miguel O'Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099.

Spider-Verse 2 comes as the first chapter of a two-part event featuring The Spot as the lead antagonist, with the story set to continue next March with the release of Beyond the Spider-Verse.

When Will Spider-Verse 2 Begin Streaming?

After ending its Pay-One streaming deal with Starz in April 2021, Sony entered into a multi-year agreement with Netflix to bring all of its new movies from 2022 onward to the legendary streamer after their theatrical and home releases.

As such, Across the Spider-Verse's first streaming destination is expected to be Netflix, but when will it actually arrive on the service?

Looking at its three biggest movies of last year, the theatrical-to-streaming window ranged from the low 120 days of Bullet Train to the high 175 days for Uncharted.

Based on these windows, the earliest fans could expect to stream Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix is the end of September. Or, if the Spider-Man flick were to take a page out of Uncharted's book, audiences could be waiting until late November.

In the meantime, its predecessor, Into the Spider-Verse, cannot currently be found on any mainline streamers. But it is currently available on Fubo TV, FXNow, and Sling.

When Will Spider-Verse 2 Release on Disney+?

Although Netflix will be the first stop for Across the Spider-Verse, Sony also has an agreement with Disney to "bring Spider-Man and other Marvel properties” to Disney+, starting out with its 2022 theatrical slate.

Netflix's deal with Sony allowed the service to have exclusive streaming rights of its movies for the first 18 months of their streaming windows. After that year and a half, the doors for Sony films to also become available to rival streamers.

Sony's only Marvel movie of last year was Morbius, and with that having only been released on Netflix in September, the service will be holding onto it exclusively until around March 2024, at which point it will likely make its way to Disney+.

So, with Spider-Verse 2 not likely to hit Netflix until sometime between September and November, the animated sequel probably won't be coming to Disney+ until 2025.

Predicting When Spider-Verse 2 Will Be Available to Purchase

Before Across the Spider-Verse comes to Netflix or Disney+, the movie will have its first home release tour through 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, DVD, and digital sales.

Looking at Sony's other recent major releases, Uncharted and 65 came to physical media 81 days after their theatrical debut, while Morbius and Bullet Train came in one week lower at 74 days.

Based on these patterns, Spider-Verse 2 should come to Blu-Ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD in mid-to-late August.

Turning attention to the digital release, these numbers fluctuated wildly from 28 days to 67 days. However, there does seem to be a pattern of Sony awarding longer theatrical-to-digital release windows to its box office hits.

As Spider-Verse 2 is expected to be a big win for Sony at the box office based on the anticipation and marvelous early reviews, its digital release will likely fall at the latter end, probably coming in late July or early August.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse hits theaters on Friday, June 2.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Projected for a Massive $150M Global Opening

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is on course to capture a huge opening take in its proverbial web as the highly anticipated animated superhero tentpole nears its theatrical premiere.

Per Deadline, Across the Spider-Verse is projected to earn $150 million at the global box office during its first three days in cinemas, which is in sync with early forecasts for the film. Overseas, the Into the Spider-Verse sequel is heading for a $60 million opening, with $20 million of that tally coming from China, a reliable market for Spider-Man movies and where the titular original grossed over $62 million following its 2018 release. Meanwhile, the feature-length title is expected to make $80-$90 million across 4,200 U.S. theaters.

If the projections hold true, it means that Across the Spider-Verse would enjoy an opening domestic take that's over two-and-a-half times what Into the Spider-Verse made. (The 2018 film scored $35 million stateside during its first three days.) Additionally, Across the Spider-Verse will more than double The Little Mermaid's expected second weekend gross, with the live-action Disney movie looking at a $40 million take. Like the first movie, a diverse turnout is expected, considering the sequel features several Spider-People from different backgrounds.

Across the Spider-Verse Arrives This Weekend

Across the Spider-Verse has already garnered very encouraging reviews before its wide release, earning a 94 percent critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus hailing its many thrills, visual appeal and teasing a cliffhanger conclusion ahead of 2024's Beyond the Spider-Verse. The movie has also been hailed as the most anticipated summer blockbuster of 2023 ahead of other notable upcoming titles like Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, The Flash and Barbie.

In Across the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales (Shamiek Moore) and Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) go on an adventure through the multiverse to save every universe of Spider-People from the Spot (Jason Schwartzman) and a pending catastrophe. Miles meets the Spider-Society, led by Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), to hatch a successful plan to defeat the Spot, but comes into conflict with them, leading him to contemplate life as Brooklyn's chief protector. Daniel Kaluuya (Hobart "Hobie" Brown/Spider-Punk), Andy Samberg (Scarlet Spider), Issa Rae (Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman) and Karan Soni (Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India) also feature as Spider-People in the movie. Co-director Justin Thompson confirmed the presence of nearly 100 named characters in Across the Spider-Verse.

On May 30, Across the Spider-Verse enjoyed its star-studded red-carpet premiere at the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles. The Sony Pictures Animation title's post-production only wrapped up on May 21, ending a five-year journey to the big screen due to delays incurred by the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues. Across the Spider-Verse boasts one of the longest runtimes for an animated film ever at approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Does ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Have an End-Credits Scene?

It might come as a shock, but Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has no end-credits scene. For the past decade, post-credits scenes have been a staple in superhero media, blockbuster projects, and stories meant to set up sequels. So, since Across the Spider-Verse checks all these boxes, fans will likely fight their bladders and stick to the end of the credits. However, waiting is not worth it in this case because Sony didn’t add any end-credits scene to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. As surprising as this choice might be, Across the Spider-Verse doesn’t need a post-credit scene. The movie already does a beautiful job setting its sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. In addition, any funny end-credits scenes could diminish the emotional impact of the movie’s mind-blowing ending.

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ Doesn’t Need an End-Credits Scene

Released in 2018, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse tells the origin story of Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore), while building an ambitious adventure involving the Multiverse and multiple Variants of the web-slinger. It could have been a bloated script, but the film ensured the main focus would be the characters and their emotional struggles. Furthermore, Into the Spider-verse introduced the world to groundbreaking 3D animation technique that looks just like comic books. It’s no wonder the movie became a huge box office hit, and Sony quickly gave Lord and Miller the keys of the kingdom to produce two sequels.

Into the Spider-Verse had an end-credits scene introducing the character of Miguel O'Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, voiced by Oscar Isaac in Across the Spider-Verse. It’s a funny scene that teases a bigger Multiverse out there while paying homage to the classic meme of Spider-Men pointing at each other. It would be a mistake to do something similar for Across the Spider-Verse. First, Lord and Miller don’t need to point out to sequels they hope to develop, as the next chapter of the Spider-Verse saga is coming to theaters in less than a year. Second, since the emotional stakes of Across the Spider-Verse are higher than in the first movie, it would feel wrong to wrap things up with a laugh.

A lot is going on in Across the Spider-Verse’s ending, and everything is essential to set the stage for Beyond the Spider-Verse. But none of it is a laughing matter. In fact, the proper reaction is to leave theaters wondering what will happen next in the lives of our favorite Spider-People, knowing what grim price they’ll have to pay should they fail their next mission. Because of that, adding a joke post-credit scene would feel strange.

Without the need to set a sequel or the right atmosphere to joke about something with the Spider-Man fandom, there was no reason to add an end-credits scene to Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. So, since the movie has beaten some animation runtime records, you can safely rush to the bathroom once the credits start to roll.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes to theaters on June 2, 2023. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on March 29, 2024.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Features Almost 100 Named Characters

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse co-director Justin Thompson has elaborated on the sheer number of Spider-People present in the highly-anticipated sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

During a recent interview with Collider, Thompson stated that there are approximately 280 Spider-People in Across the Spider-Verse, up from co-writer and producer Chris Miller's previous estimate of 240. Furthermore, even when excluding unnamed characters, the number still comes in at just shy of 100. "The exact number? Oh boy, we kept adding, like all the way up until the very end," Thompson said. "Honestly, I'm gonna be level with you, we just finished the film, like in the last like two weeks, and I don't think I've had time to pause and actually take a final count. But I think it was about 280 the last time I looked in. Just to be clear, that doesn't mean specific, unique characters that you might recognize, it might mean variations as well. But if you're just talking about named characters, then I think there's probably about 95."

2018's Into the Spider-Verse featured a fair amount of spider-themed heroes -- namely, Miles Morales/Spider-Man (Shameik Moore), Gwen Stacy/Spider-Woman (Hailee Steinfeld), Peter B. Parker/Spider-Man (Jake Johnson), Peter Porker/Spider-Ham (John Mulaney), Peni Parker/SP//dr (Kimiko Glenn), Peter Parker/Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Chris Pine) and Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac). While characters like Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir and Peni Parker are not expected to return for Across the Spider-Verse, the fast-approaching sequel still certainly ups the ante.

Joining Miles, Gwen, Peter B. and Miguel on this new adventure are the likes of Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman (Issa Rae), Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India (Karan Soni), Hobart "Hobie" Brown/Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya) and Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider (Andy Samberg). Promotional material for the film also reveals countless other Spider-Variants from across the multiverse, such as Doppelganger, Otto Octavius/Superior Spider-Man, Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman, Mary Jane Watson-Parker/Spinneret and Anna-May Parker/Spiderling, just to name a few. There are also plenty of additional variants of the OG Spider-Man, Peter Parker, including the versions from the PlayStation game Marvel's Spider-Man and the CW/Disney XD animated series The Spectacular Spider-Man. Across the Spider-Verse's second official trailer even features a nod to Tom Holland's version of Peter Parker from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Is Nearly Here

Across the Spider-Verse is slated to open in theaters on Friday, June 2. The film's official synopsis reads as follows: "Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most." A follow-up, titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is slated for release on March 29, 2024.

‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse’ Features Over 250 Spider-People

Spider-verse’ Features Over 250 Spider-People

It's no secret that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will contain a lot of Spider-People. While Into the Spider-Verse welcomed in some wild variants like Nicolas Cage's Spider-Man Noir, John Mulaney's Peter Porker, and, of course, Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), trailers from the sequel are clearly opening the door for just about every possible web-slinger the film can get. To get a definitive answer on just how much Spider fans can expect from Across the Spider-Verse, Collider's own Steve Weintraub sat down for an interview with directors Kemp Powers, Joaquim Dos Santos, and Justin Thompson who gave a specific number of Spider-People to look out for.

Some of these new Spider-People are expected to play major roles in the film like Daniel Kaluuya's Spider-Punk. As one of Gwen Stacy's best pals who shares in her love of music, he'll be a source of jealousy for Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) in this love story between the two Spiders from other worlds. There's also Miguel O'Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099, played by the always amazing Oscar Isaac, who Miles will butt heads with as they try to protect the multiverse from the threat that is Jason Schwartzman's The Spot. That's without mentioning Spider-Woman (Issa Rae), Spider-Man India (Karan Soni), the returning Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson), and even Spider-Cat!

Apparently, that's just scratching the surface. Thompson revealed there's a staggering number of Spider-People packed into the film's lengthy runtime, even when cutting it down to just named characters:

"The exact number? Oh boy, we kept adding, like all the way up until the very end. Honestly, I'm gonna be level with you, we just finished the film, like in the last like two weeks, and I don't think I've had time to pause and actually take a final count. But I think it was about 280 the last time I looked in. Just to be clear, that doesn't mean specific, unique characters that you might recognize, it might mean variations as well. But if you're just talking about named characters, then I think there's probably about 95."

Across the Spider-Verse Still Has Plenty of Spider Surprises in Store for Audiences

It might seem like we've seen a lot of the Spider-People on offer in the film produced and written by Christopher Miller, Phil Lord, and David Callaham, but there's still a lot that's being kept hidden. For one, comedian Andy Samberg is set to appear in the film, but we have yet to really see his character in a preview. Johnson also previously spoiled that a LEGO universe will be briefly featured, likely ushering in LEGO Spider-Man on top of everything. With Across the Spider-Verse being just one half of this story with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse coming next year, the possibilities are endless as to who or what is left unexplored in the infinite Spider-Verse.

In terms of what we do know, the rest of the cast will feature the likes of Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, and Rachel Dratch as well as Shea Whigham and Jorma Taccone. Sadly, don't expect Cage to return in his role as Spider-Man Noir as he previously confirmed he's not returning to the role for the film.

Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse Story Recap: 10 Things To Know From Previous Movies

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see Miles Morales exploring new universes, meeting a literal army of alternate Spider heroes throughout the multiverse. However, there is some critical set-up in past movies that's worth remembering before the new sequel releases. Likewise, Into the Spider-Verse wasn't the only movie that set the foundation for the greater multiverse story that's about to be told.

In Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Miles Morales became Spider-Man while also meeting several versions of the Webslinger from across different universes. However, both Venom films andthe MCU's Spider-Man: No Way Home helped lay the groundwork for the upcoming Spider-Verse sequel as well. Here are 10 things that will be helpful to keep in mind before watching Across the Spider-Verse.

10 Miles Morales Gains Powers From Project 42

During a secret outing with his Uncle Aaron, Miles Morales is bitten by a radioactive spider created by Alchemax who were attempting to recreate the powers of Spider-Man. While Miles did indeed gain the Webslinger's typical abilities, he can also turn invisible and can fire bioelectric "venom blasts" as powers all his own. Naturally, Into the Spider-Verse sees Miles training to control and use these new powers as the brand-new Spider-Man of Brooklyn.

09 Kingpin Builds A Collider To Access The Multiverse

Miles' attempts to discover how he got his powers lead him to the massive super collider built for Kingpin by Alchemax. Seeking to bring back alternate versions of the wife and son he lost, the collider granted Kingpin access to the entire multiverse, albeit with large amounts of instability. This explains why so many Spider heroes end up arriving from other universes (outside their or Kingpin's control).

08 Miles Morales Becomes Spider-Man After Peter Parker Dies

Failing to destroy the collider, the Peter Parker of Miles' reality was killed by Kingpin. However, he entrusted Miles with a device capable of destroying the collider before he died, symbolically passing on his mantle to Miles. Determined to honor the original Spider-Man's last wishes, Miles worked to become the next Spider-Man of his reality. Thankfully, he'd soon receive the perfect multiversal guides to help him step into the original Websligner's shoes.

07 Miles Morales Meets 5 Multiversal Spider-Heroes

First meeting Gwen Stacy at his academy without realizing she was a Spider hero from another universe, Miles met Peter B. Parker from another reality who eventually agreed to help train Miles and help him shut down the collider. After Gwen finally revealed herself as a version of Spider-Woman from yet another reality, the trio then met Spider-Noir, Peni Parker and her robot SP//dr, and the Amazing Spider-Ham. Together, the collected Spider heroes did their best to train and get Miles ready to be a true Spider-Man.

06 All Spider-Verse Heroes Return Home & The Collider Is Destroyed

By Into the Spider-Verse's final act, Miles becomes Spider-Man by finding his own path and a "leap of faith". In doing so, Miles was able to send his fellow Spider heroes home through the multiverse before shutting down the collider. He then defeated Kingpin, cementing himself in the eyes of the public as the next Spider-Man. However, Miles' multiversal adventures have only just begun as evidenced by the trailers for Across the Spider-Verse.

05 Gwen Stacy Returns To Miles Morales’ Universe

Just ahead of the credits for Into the Spider-Verse, it was revealed that Gwen somehow made it back to Miles' reality. While it's since been confirmed that there's now a way to safely travel the Spider-Verse, this was one of the film's bigger mysteries. However, it was exciting nonetheless to see that Miles and Gwen had a means of continuing their new relationship.

04 Spider-Man 2099 Becomes First Spider-Verse Traveler

As seen in Into the Spider-Verse's post-credits scene, Spider-Man 2099 made his debut with a device that allowed him to make stable jumps from reality to reality without endangering his own existence. Now, Across the Spider-Verse has confirmed that 2099's goal was to recruit a Spider Society of heroes from across the multiverse, though for some reason Miles Morales will be excluded from the team. This also explains how Gwen was able to revisit Miles as she's also a part of this new alliance of Spider-People.

03 Venom’s Universe Connected To Spider-Verse

Having released before Into the Spider-Verse, Sony's first Venom movie starring Tom Hardy featured a post-credits scene that was a clip for the upcoming animated movie showing Miles' first meeting with Peter B. Parker. However, it opened with a significant tag: "Meanwhile in another universe...". This confirms that the Venom franchise and its connected films such as Morbius and perhaps Kraven all exist within the same multiverse as the Spider-Verse movies. As such, Spider heroes might not be the only ones who could make appearances in the upcoming movie.

02 Venom Has Spider-Verse Knowledge And MCU Connections

As seen in Venom: Let There Be Carnage's post-credits scene, Eddie Brock's symbiote confirmed it holds "80 billion years of hive knowledge across universes" a tease that the symbiote hive mind Venom is connected to spans the multiverse itself. Case in point, Venom and Eddie's inadvertent jump to the MCU saw the symbiote recognizing Spider-Man, even though the Lethal Protector hadn't met or seen any version of the Webslinger to that point.

01 MCU Spider-Man Almost Destroys Multiverse With Doctor Strange

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, the MCU's Peter Parker (Tom Holland) accidentally ruined a spell he'd asked Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange to cast, meant to make the world forget that Spider-Man was Peter Parker. However, Peter continually asking for exceptions mid-cast caused the spell to go haywire, bringing in classic villains from the multiverse and two Spider-Man variants played by Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. However, the greater fallout would have damaged the entire multiverse had Peter not sacrificed his own identity, having no choice but for the entire world to forget Peter Parker in order to stabilize the chaos.

Humorously, this multiversal crisis in the MCU was referenced in the trailer for Across the Spider-Verse by Spider-Man 2099. As such, perhaps a cameo from Holland's Spider-Man is in the works for this new sequel. Either way, it's clear that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is ready to delve into the multiverse even further, especially with Miles leaving his own reality for the first time.

Across the Spider-Verse Promo Teases Gwen and Miles' Lethal Romance

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's latest trailer teases a dark end for the film's budding super-powered romance.

The trailer, posted to Twitter on May 19, sees Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy sharing a heartfelt moment as they look out over the New York City skyline together. While Gwen laments the fact that the romance between Spider-Man and various versions of herself across the Multiverse always ends in tragedy, Miles offers some sense of hope by noting, "There's a first time for everything."

Across the Spider-Verse Goes All in With Spider-People

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to mark the return of Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld as the voices of Miles and Gwen for another animated epic that will also see Jake Johnson reprise his Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse role of Peter B. Parker. A sequel to 2018's Into the Spider-Verse, Across the Spider-Verse will expand the previous cast of interdimensional Wall-Crawlers with the addition of Issa Rae as Jessica Drew, aka Spider-Woman, Karan Soni as Pavitr Prabhakar, Spider-Man India, and Oscar Isaac as Miguel O'Hara, better known as the Spider-Man of 2099.

Isaac, who also portrays the titular antihero of Marvel Studios' Moon Knight, previously opened up about which of his Marvel characters would emerge victorious if the two were to ever go head-to-head. "It's interesting -- they have some similarities, actually," Isaac explained, "But the unpredictability of Moon Knight, the fact that he’s the man of a million faces... Yeah, I've got to go with Moon Knight on this one."

Along with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse's exceptionally long voice cast list, the film is poised to make a place on the list of longest Western animated features of all time, with its 140-minute runtime placing it ahead of 1978's The Lord of the Rings and only behind Marcell Jankovics' 2011 Hungarian animated drama The Tragedy of Man, which runs an astounding 160 minutes. Across the Spider-Verse is expected to make big waves at the box office in spite of its long runtime, with projections pointing toward the film surpassing $85 million domestic on its opening weekend, more than double Into the Spider-Verse's opening weekend return of $35.4 across North America.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on June 2.

New 'Spider-Man: Across the Spide-Verse' Character Posters on Display at CinemaCon

With the highly anticipated Spider-Man Across The Spider-Verse — a sequel to the 2018 Oscar winner Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse — set to swing into theaters in just a few months on June 2, 2023, fans are excited to see any and all new content for the animated film. Collider's own Steve Weintraub is in attendance at CinemaCon 2023 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and had the chance to see a collection of new posters for the upcoming film, a total of six posters in all that feature several of the different Spider-Men and Spider-Women that will appear in the film.

Each poster showcases an individual character from the upcoming film, with just about all of them swinging to action. The characters shown in these posters include Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore, who returns to reprise his role as the lead character from the first film as well as another returning and central character Gwen Stacy or Spider-Gwen, played by Hailee Steinfeld, Miguel O'Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099 voiced by Oscar Isaac, Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, voiced by Issa Rae, Karan Soni's character Pavitr Prabhakar/Spider-Man India, and Hobie Brown aka Spider-Punk played by Daniel Kaluuya. Each poster showcases the specific Spider person pulling off a super-human feat, except Spider-Punk, who would rather rock out instead of sling webs.

One of the notable absences in this line-up is Peter B. Parker, the older Peter who mentors Miles in the first film and that is set to once again play a key role in the new film once again voiced by Jake Johnson. Additional returning cast members include Brian Tyree Henry as Miles' father Jefferson Davis and Luna Lauren Vélez as Miles' mother Rio Morales. Other cast members that will appear in the film include Jason Schwartzman as the film's main villain, Spot, and Jorma Taccone as the recurring Spider-Man villain Vulture. Additionally, Shea Whigham will appear as Gwen's father George Stacy, and Rachel Dratch will be Miles's school principal. Notably, Nicolas Cage, will not be making a return to reprise his role as fan-favorite character Spider-Noir.

Who Else is Working on Across the Spider-Verse

Across the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, who will also serve as directors on the film's already-announced sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and David Callaham serve as the writers of the film as well as producers and worked alongside Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg with Alonzo Ruvalcaba co-producing. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Merch Offers First Look at Spider-Punk

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will bring plenty of new Spider-People to the big screen, and one Spider heading to cinemas for the first time, Spider-Punk, recently got a full design reveal courtesy of some newly-released merchandise.

Marvel Cinematic Universe fan account Mcu Campus (@McuCampus) recently took to Twitter to show off a new piece of Across the Spider-Verse merchandise: a jigsaw puzzle. Beyond being a fun way to pass the time, this particular puzzle also includes a new image of Spider-Punk, another universe's punk rock Spider-Man, who will appear in the upcoming animated film. In traditional Spider-Punk fashion, he's carrying his electric guitar and comes outfitted with a spiky bracelet and an impressive mask-mohawk.

Spider-Punk isn't the only Spider represented here. The puzzle also features Miles Morales, the protagonist of Across the Spider-Verse's predecessor, Into the Spider-Verse. Another Into the Spider-Verse star, Gwen Stacy, also makes an appearance. There's also a quick look at Miguel O'Hara, who popped up in Into the Spider-Verse's post-credits scene and will play a major role in Across the Spider-Verse. Ben Reilly, the Scarlet Spider, is also here, after appearing on another piece of Across the Spider-Verse merch: a licensed version of the board game Trouble.

Elsewhere on the box, there's also an image of Cyborg Spider-Woman. Unlike the other heroes in the film, Cyborg Spider-Woman is an original character created for Across the Spider-Verse. She has the same cybernetic augmentations as Cyborg Spider-Man, a somewhat obscure comics character, but she appears significantly larger and has a fundamentally altered design. Fans previously got a look at Cyborg Spider-Woman in the form of a Hasbro action figure.

That's already plenty of new Spiders, but producer and co-writer Christopher Miller says there will be even more in the final film. By his count, there will be 240 multiverse-hopping Spider-Men, Women and Children. Still, Miller has reassured fans that the movie will not veer too far from the character-focused narrative of the first film. He says that Across the Spider-Verse's story is still focused on Miles, although Gwen and a few other characters will play important roles in the narrative as well.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse arrives in theaters on June 2, 2023. Its sequel, Beyond the Spider-Verse, will follow closely behind, hitting theaters on March 29, 2024.

'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' Producer Reveals New Action Packed Poster

Sony’s catalog of Spider-Man characters is growing exponentially with Dakota Johnson led Madame Web and Aaron Taylor-Johnson led Kraven the Hunter set to release next year. But perhaps the most awaited feature from the studio is the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Recently, the movie’s producer Christopher Miller shared the first poster for the new feature on Twitter saying, “Here is a fun little poster made for the Across the Spider-Verse crew.”

The poster sees Miles Morales going up against Spider-Man 2099. The artistic style is very unusual just like the rest of the franchise and features a likeness to comic book aesthetics: on a yellow and orange backdrop Miles can be seen in his black and red suit and Spider-Man 2099 is seen donning a blue and red suit. The movie’s predecessor Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse was a visual delight with a feel of walking into the comic book panels and won the Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards — being the first non-Disney/Pixar film to win the award since 2011 Rango. Across the Spider-verse seems to be walking in its footsteps.

The movie is the second in the franchise and part one of a two-parter story with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse expected in 2024. Across the Spider-verse follows Miles (Shameik Moore) after the events of the first movie and will see him re-teaming with Spider Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) and a group of new Spider-people going up against Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Issac). While the previous movie introduced very niche characters to the big screen like Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage) and Spider-Ham (John Mulaney) the characters for the new ones are kept tightly under wraps though Jake Johnson will be making a return as hilarious Peter B Parker.

A previously revealed trailer gave us a glimpse of the colorful multiverse in store and did reveal that Spider-Man 2099 aka Miguel O'Hara will be integral to the sequel’s plot. Each dimension depicted a new animation style while Miller later confirmed that the story will take place across six universes and features about 240 unique minor and major characters, however, per the producer “the story is personal and centers on Miles and his family, along with Gwen and a handful of others.”

The second part of this multiverse-centric trilogy is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson. While the screenplay is by Miller, Phil Lord, and David Callaham.

Spider-Man Across the Spider-verse is set for a June 2, 2023, release. Meanwhile, check out the new poster and trailer below:

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Promo Art Teases New Character

Promo photos of a board game based on the upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse have made their way online, giving fans a hint about a new version of Spider-Man that may appear in the film.

New promo art for a rendition of the board game Trouble showcased a variety of art for the upcoming movie. While the board game featured new art for Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy’s characters, it also showed off the Scarlet Spider, a character that hasn’t been confirmed for the film but is one of the most well-known variations of the iconic character.

The Scarlet Spider, or Ben Reilly, was a clone of Peter Parker who was created in a lab by the Jackal, and originally premiered in the world of Marvel Comics in the 70s. Since then, many different characters have taken up the mantle as Scarlet Spider, and his iconic costume has appeared in a variety of video games and other Spider-Man properties.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see Issa Rae’s Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman join Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld in the animated comic book sequel. The two are reprising their roles as Miles Morales/Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen, respectively. Plot details are being kept under wraps but will reportedly feature multiple Spider-powered characters “across Marvel Comics’ time and space.”

It was announced in April that Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson will serve as the film’s trio of directors. Lord, Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg are all returning to produce the Sony Pictures project, with Alonzo Ruvalcaba co-producing. The original Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey will executive produce, along with Aditya Sood.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced a teenage Miles Morales, who becomes the Spider-Man of his universe and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat to all realities. The movie won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film and grossed $375.5 million at the global box office.

Across the Spider-Verse Merch Reveals New Spider-Man Character Details

New merchandise from Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse reveals character and story details for the sequel. Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is the sequel to the animated hit Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which introduced Miles Morales' Spider-Man (voiced by Shamiek Moore) as he must contend with an opening of the Spider-Verse, which brings several Spider-People from all different dimensions into his world. One of those Spider-People is Spider-Man/Peter B. Parker (voiced by Jake Johnson), who becomes a mentor to Morales, helping him establish himself in his own Spider-Verse, before returning to his own world at the end of the first film.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is the first chapter of a two-part sequel, with the third chapter being called Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse. Both will release in 2023 and 2024, respectively, with both Moore, Johnson, and a massive cast that includes Oscar Isaac (Spider-Man 2099), Hailee Steinfeld (Spider-Gwen), Issa Rae (Jessica Drew), Bryan Tyree Henry (Jefferson Davis), Shea Whigham (George Stacy), Jorma Taccone (Vulture), and Jason Schwartzman (The Spot). Written by Chris Miller and Phil Lord, along with Dave Callaham, both sequels will be directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson.

New merchandise for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse has started hitting shelves in anticipation of the film's release next year (via ComicBook) and features some new character and story details that give a closer look at what the film will involve. On the back of the packaging for one of the new pieces of merch, it reads, "Peter B. Parker is stuck between wanting to protect old pal Miles and siding with his more experienced Spider-Man comrade." This suggests some conflict is coming between Parker, Morales, and likely that of Miguel O'Hara aka Spider-Man 2099. The other piece of packaging reads, "Miguel O'Hara tried to manipulate the genetics of former Spider-People and accidentally turned himself into the best Spider-Man in the Multi-Verse." This reads more like a description for Spider-Man 2099 as a character, as it relates closely to his comic-book origin and seems likely to translate similarly in Across The Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man 2099 appeared in the end credits of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, teasing a much larger role for Across The Spider-Verse, as he appeared to have a firm grasp and understanding of the multi-verse, more so than any other character. The teaser trailers thus far have shown as much, with Spider-Man 2099 featuring prominently throughout, utilizing the "goober" on his wrist, which appears to allow him to jump through the Spider-Verse with ease. Certainly that will play a big role in bringing Miles Morales and Peter B. Parker into the story, but outside The Spot being one of the villains, very little has been officially revealed about the story.

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse is still a year away, so there's plenty of time to speculate on how the film will play out, but each new clue, be it a trailer or merchandise, continues to peel back the layers on what these animated sequels will be about. The first Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was an amazing achievement in animation and for many, it's the best Spider-Man film to date, even more so than the live-action iterations. Having a new conflict between Parker, O'Hara, and Morales should make for a fun dynamic as they venture further into the animated world of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Merch Reveals a Horrifying Cyborg Spider-Woman

An early look at a Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse action figure gives fans a glimpse of the film's terrifying cybernetic Spider-Woman.

Twitter user @preterniadotcom shared an image of the "Cyborg Spider-Woman" action figure on July 31. The hulking Hasbro toy is adorned with a plethora of Liefeldian patches, as well as various bits of armor and chains which form the iconic Spider symbol on her chest. This Spider-Woman also features a massive rotating cannon in place of a right arm.

The "Cyborg Spider-Woman" is the latest in a long line of characters from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse who have been quietly confirmed thanks to associated merchandise. Comic book fan-favorite Hobe Brown, aka Spider-Punk, was confirmed thanks to a toy guitar and mask sporting his likeness. Other Hasbro figures from the film's merchandise line have given fans an early look at the updated costumes for other Spider-Verse staples including Miguel O'Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099.

The upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the beginning of a two-part sequel to the 2018 animated hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse starring Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jake Johnson. Producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord have previously opened up about the size and scale of the film, the latter stated that "The sequel is way, way bigger than the last one. It's the largest crew of an animated movie ever."

Miller also clarified concerns regarding the film's seemingly endless number of Spiders. "Amidst the universe-hopping, there are 240 unique characters... but they're mostly minor or background characters," he explained. Miller went on to reassure fans that, despite the endless possibilities of the eponymous Spider-Verse, "The story is personal [and] centers on Miles and his family, along [with] Gwen and a handful of others."

The upcoming film will see returning heroes Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy team up with a slew of new and returning allies from across the Multiverse to take on the threat of The Spot, voiced by Jason Schwartzman. Co-director Kemp Powers remarked on the film's choice of villain as well as The Spot's story throughout. "The Spot, from the very beginning, he just seemed like endless potential -- both visually and the arc of the character." He added, "And the arc of Doctor Ohnn/The Spot does really complement, without giving away the story, the journey of Miles [Morales] in this film really well."

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into cinemas on June 2, 2023.
