Sony Releases New Spider-Man Poster for 4 Main Spider-Men

A new trailer from Sony Pictures featured all nine Spider-Man movies in anticipation of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and with it came an all-new Spidey-centric poster.

Spider-Man has been played by a trio of actors in live-action (Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire), with three generations of Spidey fans getting a webhead to call their own.

And, in recent times, Sony has been on a bit of a victory tour, celebrating the wall-crawler like it never has before with box sets, brand deals, and fan celebrations.

Sony Celebrates 4 Spider-Man in New Poster
Sony Pictures posted a brand-new trailer celebrating all nine Spider-Man movies from the studio, ahead of the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Alongside the promo, a new piece of poster artwork was released, highlighting the four main Spider-Men that have graced the big screen: Shameik Moore's Miles Morales, Tom Holland's Peter Parker, Andrew Garfield's webhead, and Tobey Maguire's wallcrawler.

The poster features vibrant colors in the signature style of Spider-Verse, an interesting design choice coming off the back of teases of a possible live-action and animation crossover.

The official Sony Pictures Home Entertainment tweeted the trailer out, urging fans to "revisit [their] favorite Spider-Man movie adventures" before they "travel Across The Spider-Verse."

All nine Spider-Man films get the spotlight in this small piece of marketing, including Tom Holland's MCU trilogy, the three Tobey Maguire films, both Amazing Spider-Man movies, and the beloved animated adventure, Into the Spider-Verse:
  • Spider-Man
  • Spider-Man 2
  • Spider-Man 3
  • The Amazing Spider-Man
  • The Amazing Spider-Man 2
  • Spider-Man: Homecoming
  • Spider-Man: Far From Home
  • Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
  • Spider-Man: No Way Home

The trailer ends by promoting the URL SpideyMovies.com, a storefront where the nine Spidey films are available for purchase.

What Are Sony's Spider-Man Plans?
While Sony Pictures has been in a habit of celebrating its lengthy cinematic history with Marvel's iconic webhead, releasing all sorts of collections for its (and Marvel Studios') Spidey films, this trailer does feel a little out of nowhere.

Of course, there is always the chance that it is just getting fans in the mood for the upcoming Across the Spider-Verse film. Sony has put out trailers like this before, so that would not be all that surprising.

But what if there is something more clandestine afoot at Sony Pictures?

For months, rumors have been swirling about some of these cinematic Spider-Men crossing over in Spider-Verse 2. Reports in February noted that the Multiversal sequel would feature "an animated Miles in a live-action world."

And with at least one live-action universe confirmed to appear in the animated blockbuster, there is a real chance that all this could be whetting the palette for what is to come in Across the Spider-Verse.

Yes, at this point, a four-way Spidey team-up is merely speculation, but it's hard not to hop into the world of super-powered conspiracy when looking at these sorts of things.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse comes to theaters on Friday, June 2.

MCU Better Explained No Way Home's Ending Spell & Made Peter's Fate Darker

Spider-Man: No Way Home changed Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) story ompletely, but it also left many questions about Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) final spell and how this affected the timeline, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe better explained this in the movie’s extended cut, making Peter’s fate darker. The MCU’s Phase 4 marks the beginning of the Multiverse Saga, and after giving the audience a taste of the multiverse in the TV series Loki, Marvel explored it deeper in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which was packed with surprises and also some heartbreaking moments.

After Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealed his identity to the whole world and framed him for his murder at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the web-slinger asking Doctor Strange to cast a spell that would make everyone forget he’s Spider-Man. However, the spell was botched and, instead, it opened the gates to the multiverse, allowing villains from past Spider-Man movies to cross over, as well as two variants of Peter/Spider-Man. The only way to fix this was to cast another spell that would make everyone forget Peter Parker, leaving him completely alone by the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home – and if that wasn’t sad enough, the extended cut of the movie included a new post-credits scene that makes Peter’s fate a lot sadder and darker.

No Way Home's Extended Cut Memory Spell Reveals Make Peter's Fate Sadder

The extended cut of Spider-Man: No Way Home, subtitled The More Fun Stuff Version, was released in theaters in August and September, and it includes approximately 13 minutes of additional and deleted scenes. The theatrical version of No Way Home featured a mid-credits scene with Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, who unknowingly leaves behind a piece of the Venom symbiote in the MCU before being sent back to his universe, and as a post-credits scene, it included a trailer of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Replacing the trailer in The More Fun Stuff Version is a video from Midtown School about cafeteria safety followed by Betty’s Corner With Betty Brant. In it, Betty (Angourie Rice) recaps their high school years and shows videos and photos from Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

However, as Doctor Strange’s spell made everyone forget about Peter Parker, those high school memories were also altered. Before the extended cut was released, there were many questions about the extent of Strange’s spell and how it affected the timeline, both present and past. The new post-credits scene showed that Peter is now missing from pictures and videos or he’s hidden in different ways, as seen in the group photo in Europe, where Peter is standing in the middle, but his face is obscured by a pigeon flying in front of it. The spell, then, altered all evidence of Peter, and even though he was present in all those moments, as seen in the photo in Europe, no one remembers him being there, which makes the whole situation a lot more tragic for Peter, as he has no pictures and videos about his past, including those of him with Aunt May and Uncle Ben.

What No Way Home's Ending Spell Explanation Means For Spider-Man 4

Although the new post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home makes Peter’s story even sadder, it also makes way for a variety of possibilities for Spider-Man 4. With no one in the world remembering him and with Aunt May gone, Peter is all alone and starting a new life from scratch, allowing Marvel to adapt some fan-favorite storylines from the comic books that wouldn’t have been possible to see before Strange’s spell was cast. However, all this also makes it a lot more difficult for Peter to make people remember him as he has little to no evidence of his past relationships with his friends and colleagues, adding yet another layer of sadness to his story. Spider-Man 4 will see the struggles Peter has been going through now that no one remembers him, but restoring the world’s memories just got a lot more difficult.

How Much Extra Footage Spider-Man: No Way Home Re-Release Has

The Spider-Man: No Way Home theatrical re-release will feature extra footage, not previously released. The MCU blockbuster starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, Marisa Tomei, and Benedict Cumberbatch pulled in $1.9 billion worldwide, making it the sixth highest-grossing film of all time worldwide, and the third highest-grossing film of all time domestically. Directed by Jon Watts, the final chapter of the Homecoming trilogy notably opened up the multiverse for future MCU films, which will play a big factor in the future of the franchise.

Back in June, Sony announced a Spider-Man: No Way Home extended cut - dubbed The More Fun Stuff Version - would be released in theaters this September. The nature of the subtitle implied audiences would be treated to additional footage that wasn't present in the theatrical cut - even after the home media release included 80 minutes of extra footage. Since the initial confirmation, audiences have been wondering just how much more No Way Home they'll be getting when the film hits theaters once again, and now that's been revealed.

Fandango shared Spider-Man: No Way Home - The More Fun Stuff version has 11 additional minutes of previously unseen footage. Tckets are set to go on sale on Tuesday, August 23rd. Check out the announcement for the re-release below:

What those 11 minutes entail is a mystery for now. With the More Fun Stuff subtitle in mind, it's certainly possible there will be additional scenes of Holland, Maguire, and Garfield together. Sequences of the three Peters interacting were very entertaining and a definite highlight for viewers, so seeing more of them would give the extended version a major selling point. There could also be more scenes featuring No Way Home's villains. Many viewers were disappointed when No Way Home's Blu-ray didn't have deleted scenes, and perhaps Sony was saving them for this theatrical re-release. It will be interesting to see what's included and how it fits into the No Way Home story, as that will determine if purchasing another ticket was worth it.

Spider-Man: No Way Home's re-release comes at a time when the box office is drying up for new releases, making it a smart move on the studio's part. It's also an opportunity for No Way Home to move up on the box office charts, possibly overtaking Avengers: Endgame domestically, which would make it the highest-grossing MCU film in the U.S. If nothing else, Spider-Man: No Way Home's re-release will simply give audiences another opportunity to see the film in theaters, this time with more footage, which is a good enough excuse to revisit.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Promo Art Teases New Character

Promo photos of a board game based on the upcoming sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse have made their way online, giving fans a hint about a new version of Spider-Man that may appear in the film.

New promo art for a rendition of the board game Trouble showcased a variety of art for the upcoming movie. While the board game featured new art for Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy’s characters, it also showed off the Scarlet Spider, a character that hasn’t been confirmed for the film but is one of the most well-known variations of the iconic character.

The Scarlet Spider, or Ben Reilly, was a clone of Peter Parker who was created in a lab by the Jackal, and originally premiered in the world of Marvel Comics in the 70s. Since then, many different characters have taken up the mantle as Scarlet Spider, and his iconic costume has appeared in a variety of video games and other Spider-Man properties.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see Issa Rae’s Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman join Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld in the animated comic book sequel. The two are reprising their roles as Miles Morales/Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen, respectively. Plot details are being kept under wraps but will reportedly feature multiple Spider-powered characters “across Marvel Comics’ time and space.”

It was announced in April that Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson will serve as the film’s trio of directors. Lord, Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Christina Steinberg are all returning to produce the Sony Pictures project, with Alonzo Ruvalcaba co-producing. The original Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey will executive produce, along with Aditya Sood.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse introduced a teenage Miles Morales, who becomes the Spider-Man of his universe and must join with five spider-powered individuals from other dimensions to stop a threat to all realities. The movie won the 2019 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film and grossed $375.5 million at the global box office.

MCU Producer Teases 'Amazing' Multiverse Saga Stories on the Way

Marvel fans now have a good idea of where the MCU is going in its post-Infinity Saga story, which is now known as the Mulitiverse Saga. Featuring an amazing lineup of projects that started with 2021's WandaVision and will end with the dynamic duo of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2025, this new slate of films and TV shows has no shortage of thrills.

2022 will mark the end of Phase 4 with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever before Phase 5 brings a dozen new entries through 2024, starting with an epic threequel in next year's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. From there, the story will only become more intense and exciting with team-ups for the Thunderbolts and the Fantastic Four, all leading to an inevitable Multiversal war to close out Phase 6.

Even while fans still wait to find out everything still yet to be announced for release over the next three years, knowing the direction of the MCU paints a much clearer picture for how this massive story will progress forward. Ahead of the MCU's return to animated and live-action storytelling this month, one of the company's top producers also shared his thoughts on what makes the Multiverse Saga so uniquely special.

Marvel Producer Teases MCU's Multiverse Saga

Speaking with Variety, Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum shared his thoughts on what makes the MCU's Multiverse Saga so exciting for the MCU and teased the amazing stories to come.

When discussing how the animated I Am Groot series connects to the Guardians of the Galaxy movies and whether future animated series will have similar MCU connections, Winderbaum explained how the entire Multiverse Saga opens "so many more roads" to use for stories.

He noted how the Multiverse allows for "alternate paths and other takes on the characters" to be explored in "unforeseen, unexpected ways," particularly through the animated projects which will use the Multiverse concept as its "guiding light:"

"I think what’s amazing about the Multiverse Saga in particular is that you can go down so many more roads. We’ve experimented at the studio for a long time about telling stories that take place in a linear fashion, but also going back in time, and being able to show how the MCU can blossom in the past. But what the Multiverse does, it allows us to look at alternate paths and other takes on the characters, which is, of course, what happens in the comic books as different artists, different writers, different storytellers work with characters. You see them expanding and growing in unforeseen, unexpected ways. And that’s something that is our guiding light as we make more animated projects."

Will All the MCU's Animated Projects Be Multiverse Stories?
MCU fans got their first true taste of the Multiverse in Phase 4, with past heroes and villains taking leading roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home and new Variants shining in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. These movies, along with the Loki series on Disney+, opened fans' minds to what could be accomplished through the Multiverse on screen, and it will only expand from there.

With Winderbaum teasing how much different versions of the same characters will play a role in the Multiverse Saga, it only opens the flood gates for how crazy things are going to get over the next couple of years. Eventually, that Incursion that started in Doctor Strange 2 will lead to universes colliding and battling in the fifth and sixth Avengers movies, expanding the MCU to levels never seen before.

While that story won't truly get too wild before Phase 4 ends, fans will start to see the effects of the Multiverse before too long as Avengers: Endgame moves further into the past.

It is interesting to hear that the Multiverse is being treated as a "guiding light" for Marvel's animated projects, possibly hinting that these stories will be solely set as Elseworlds stories rather than being tied to the mainline MCU directly. Marvel's animation has yet to properly cross over to live-action, and its future endeavors do all seem to take place in their own universes. Therefore, those hoping for animated stories to be set in Earth-616 or directly tie into the events of the films may want to hold their breath, especially considering animated MCU projects were left off of the Phase 5 slate.

That isn't to say that these Multiverse stories won't be amazing though, as the concept will indeed open infinity opportunities for the franchise moving forward.

The MCU will continue with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which begins streaming on Disney+ on Thursday, August 18.

Return Of Spider-Man's Deadliest (& Most Obscure) Villain Teased

Probably no hero has as wide and dangerous a villain gallery as Spider-Man, and one of his most deadliest is hinted to be returning.

Years ago, when Spider-Man was first learning about his mystical connection to the spider totem, he journeyed to the astral plane to fight a villain with the help of Doctor Strange. However, while he was there he drew the attention of a mystical wasp creature named Shathra. She followed him back to Earth and attempted to hunt him down. Ultimately, Spider-Man was able to defeat her with the help of Ezekiel and a spider God in Africa.

Marvel is in the middle of gearing up for a brand new Spider-Verse event, which the beginnings of were revealed in a brand new Edge of Spider-Verse #1 by Alex Segura, Caio Majado, Dustin Weaver, and DJ Bryant. In this issue, which featured several different stories across the Spider-Verse, another bearer of the spider totem, Arana, underwent a transformation that increased her powers. It seems her arch-nemesis, the Sisterhood of the Wasp, has returned and grown stronger due to Shathra's reemergence. Also, an image of Shathra appeared in a later story, which pretty much solidifies her return as a villain during the series.

Although Shathra is am extremely dangerous villain and almost put Spider-Man down for good, she has been extremely underutilized since. Her fate seemed pretty definite, so it would be hard to bring her back. Obviously, no character stays dead forever in comics, and with the amount of times Spider-Man and his extended characters have utilized their spider totems in the stories, it was only a matter of time before their natural mystical predator made her resurgence.

It's also very interesting how they are tying Shathra's story in with Arana's. Originally, the two were not connected at all except for the character Ezekiel, who was instrumental in Arana's origin, but the connection makes sense. Shathra is a mystical wasp while Arana's villains are the Sisterhood of the Wasp. It's also beneficial that it seems Marvel is taking a break from the usual Spider-Verse enemies. Morlun and his family of Inheritors are typically the ones to hunt spiders across the Spider-Verse.

But it's probably for the best that it appears Spider-Man and his friends will face another foe this time around.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Merch Reveals a Horrifying Cyborg Spider-Woman

An early look at a Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse action figure gives fans a glimpse of the film's terrifying cybernetic Spider-Woman.

Twitter user @preterniadotcom shared an image of the "Cyborg Spider-Woman" action figure on July 31. The hulking Hasbro toy is adorned with a plethora of Liefeldian patches, as well as various bits of armor and chains which form the iconic Spider symbol on her chest. This Spider-Woman also features a massive rotating cannon in place of a right arm.

The "Cyborg Spider-Woman" is the latest in a long line of characters from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse who have been quietly confirmed thanks to associated merchandise. Comic book fan-favorite Hobe Brown, aka Spider-Punk, was confirmed thanks to a toy guitar and mask sporting his likeness. Other Hasbro figures from the film's merchandise line have given fans an early look at the updated costumes for other Spider-Verse staples including Miguel O'Hara, aka Spider-Man 2099.

The upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is the beginning of a two-part sequel to the 2018 animated hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse starring Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, and Jake Johnson. Producers Chris Miller and Phil Lord have previously opened up about the size and scale of the film, the latter stated that "The sequel is way, way bigger than the last one. It's the largest crew of an animated movie ever."

Miller also clarified concerns regarding the film's seemingly endless number of Spiders. "Amidst the universe-hopping, there are 240 unique characters... but they're mostly minor or background characters," he explained. Miller went on to reassure fans that, despite the endless possibilities of the eponymous Spider-Verse, "The story is personal [and] centers on Miles and his family, along [with] Gwen and a handful of others."

The upcoming film will see returning heroes Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy team up with a slew of new and returning allies from across the Multiverse to take on the threat of The Spot, voiced by Jason Schwartzman. Co-director Kemp Powers remarked on the film's choice of villain as well as The Spot's story throughout. "The Spot, from the very beginning, he just seemed like endless potential -- both visually and the arc of the character." He added, "And the arc of Doctor Ohnn/The Spot does really complement, without giving away the story, the journey of Miles [Morales] in this film really well."

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into cinemas on June 2, 2023.

Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man Lands His Own No Way Home Action Figure

Tobey Maguire's Friendly Neighborhood variant from Spider-Man: No Way Home has just received a spectacular action figure.

Figsoku.net shared the first images of Bandai's S.H. Figuarts' new Spider-Man figure based on Tobey Maguire's character from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy from the 2000s and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe megahit. The figure stands 6" tall with several points of articulation. Only two images were shared: One with Maguire's stunningly accurate head sculpt as Peter Parker holding Spidey's mask in hand. The other image shows the masked Spider-Man swinging into action with a translucent web shooter. No further information was supplied about a release date from Bandai.

This is not the first recent action figure -- outside the trilogy's original tie-in toys -- to be based on Maguire's multiverse variant of the Wall-Crawler. Hasbro recently previewed a Marvel Legends three-pack based on the epic Statue of Liberty climax from Spider-Man: No Way Home. That upcoming set of 6" scale figures will include Maguire's Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man along with Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man and Tom Holland's MCU Spider-Man.

Maguire made his debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2002's Spider-Man, in which he gained his powers from a radioactive spider and faces off against Norman Osborne/Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe). The film solidified Marvel as a cinematic force, grossing $825 million worldwide and receiving universal acclaim. The sequel, 2004's Spider-Man 2, saw the Wall-Crawler face Dr. Octopus (Alfred Molina) while coming to grips with his dual identity. The reviews were more glowing than the original and some fans consider it to be the best Spider-Man movie on film. But 2007's Spider-Man 3 polarized critics and audiences for it being overstuffed with villains and subplots.

A fourth Spider-Man film in the Raimi series was planned for production in 2011 with Maguire back in the role. But script issues and creative differences with Sony led to the project's cancellation as well as the launch of the 2012 reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man. Maguire would reprise Peter Parker in No Way Home's third act, entering the MCU after Holland's Spider-Man accidentally opens up the multiverse through Dr. Strange's memory-wiping spell. The two Spider-Men, alongside Garfield's variant, team up to stop their respective villains from doing more damage to the multiverse.

Since No Way Home's release, fans have pushed for Maguire to continue in the role for Raimi's fourth Spider-Man film. The actor has stopped short of saying his time as Spider-Man is over. "It was really about getting together with these people and revisiting what was part of my history," Maguire said. "There are personal things, too, which are kinda resolutions or a way to revisit and to get back into that and, I don't wanna say, like, 'close the chapter,' but 'revisit' and have certain resolutions and just join in this loving creative spirit."

Bandai S.H. Figuarts six-inch Tobey Magure Spider-Man action figure does not have a release date.

MCU Boss Hints at Tom Holland's Spider-Man Future Ahead of Phase 5

Marvel Studios is back on top of the movie world after an impressive showing at San-Diego Comic-Con 2022, which included news on more than a dozen projects from Phases 4, 5, and 6. However, one character that didn’t get a lot of love was one of Marvel’s most popular heroes - Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.

When fans last saw the web-slinger, he got his first taste of what the Multiverse had to offer as Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home became the third-highest grossing movie in MCU history. Now, he continues on as a complete enigma in a world that doesn’t know Peter Parker exists, but people still have their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man swinging through New York and protecting his city.

With Sony Pictures still in charge of Spidey’s movie rights, it will almost certainly be Sony that announces any official future plans for Tom Holland’s solo movies in the newly-named Multiverse Saga. However, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige wasn’t about to let an entire MCU presentation go by without reminding fans that Spidey is still very much in play.

Spider-Man's 'Street-Level' Future

In a chat with MTV News' Josh Horowitz, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige gave a quick shout-out to Spider-Man when discussing the MCU's future.

When asked about Harry Styles' future as Eros after Eternals, Feige listed off a number of characters who will continue to have a presence moving into Phase 5. Most notably, however, he mentioned that "Spidey [is] going into the street level heroes:"

"The adventures of Eros and Pip is something very exciting for us. You talk about Ghost Rider, we’ve got Blade, we’ve got Doctor Strange, we’ve got the supernatural angles, we’ve got the street-level with our announcement of Daredevil, and of course, Spidey going into the street-level heroes. And cosmic, and that’s where our friends Eros and Pip live."

Spider-Man Will Return to MCU Soon
Looking at the whole picture, Feige’s mention of Spidey’s status as a “street-level” hero doesn’t reveal a ton of information. But it’s clear that he always has Peter Parker on his mind, and the web-slinger being a part of the listed group certainly paints a bright future ahead for him.

In the animated realm, Spider-Man: Freshman Year will throw Spidey alongside Charlie Cox’s Daredevil - an exciting development on screen after their short interaction in No Way Home. It’s still a mystery who else’s paths he will cross in his next planned trilogy, but the powers that be at Sony and Marvel are already formulating that next storyline.

Seeing Spider-Man team up with Daredevil more is certainly something that fans want, and with Feige mentioning Peter Parker as a street-level hero, that could very well be the case moving forward.

Last year's Hawkeye already set up Alaqua Cox's Echo spin-off, which is rumored to feature Cox's Daredevil, and there are hints that more heroes like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage could be on the way as well. Spider-Man teaming up with those characters or others would certainly give him a new dynamic, and Feige seems to tell a lot with that comment by only saying as little as he did.

Although no release date is set yet, Spider-Man 4 is already in the early stages of development while Holland takes a temporary break from the MCU. But simply hearing Feige mention the hero will have fans excited about another set of quippy web-slinging antics in the next three solo Spider-Man stories.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available on Blu-ray and via digital release, as are Holland’s first two Spider-Man movies. The movie will also return to theaters from August through September with the extended "The More Fun Stuff Version."

First Look at Dakota Johnson In Spider-Man's Madame Web Movie (Video)

Sony Pictures continues to build its Spider-Man Universe adjacent to the MCU, adding new characters into the mix like Tom Hardy's Venom and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kraven the Hunter. Currently in the spotlight is the little-known Madame Web, who will star in her feature film debut next year with Fifty Shades of Grey's Dakota Johnson in the leading role.

Madame Web is still shrouded in plenty of mystery, even as cameras begin to roll ahead of the movie's October 6, 2023, debut in theaters. Johnson will have a stellar cast surrounding her thanks to the efforts of Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney and Parks and Recreation's Adam Scott, although there is still no word regarding what roles they will actually play in this Spider-Man spin-off outing.

This new entry will reportedly give Madame Web a proper origin story within Sony's Spider-Man Universe, but how the story comes together is still largely unknown as production gets underway. Even though that's still the case with the latest update, fans now have their first official look at Dakota Johnson as she makes her superhero movie debut with Sony.

Dakota Johnson Seen on Madame Web Set

Twitter user @dakotaj_updates shared the first look at Dakota Johnson on the set of Sony Pictures' Madame Web, in which she plays the titular character.

The first video is only seven seconds long and shows Johnson poking her head out of a door, which appears to be to an undisclosed hotel or similar building. She's dressed in a red leather coat with the rest of her ensemble being all black:

The second video is 13 seconds long and shows Johnson standing in the doorway of this same building, although there are no details pointing to what location it could be within the story itself:

These videos come from Allston, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston.

What’s in Store for Madame Web Solo Movie?
Looking at these couple of videos, it's difficult to pick out any specific plot points considering there's no reference for a location or other characters Dakota Johnson interacts with. Additionally, her costume raises some interesting questions about the character she's actually playing within the Spider-Man Universe.

Her costume looks eerily reminiscent of Julia Carpenter, who's gone under the moniker of both Spider-Woman and Madame Web in the comics. Although it's presumed right now that Dakota Johnson will play the original Madame Web, Cassandra Webb, there is no way to be sure with no official cast listings out in the public and the movie still not premiering for more than a year.

Regardless, it's exciting to see Johnson at work on Sony's latest Spider-Man movie, which the company hopes to use to expand its often-chided universe forward into the new era. With her clairvoyant abilities and a story potentially set nearly 20 years in the past, Sony hopes that this movie will fare better publicly than recent outings like Morbius.

Madame Web will premiere in theaters on October 6, 2023.

Tom Holland Will Reportedly Not Voice Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Freshman Year

Tom Holland will reportedly not voice Peter Parker / Spider-Man in the upcoming Spider-Man: Freshman Year animated series.

According to The Illuminerdi, it is unlikely that Holland will reprise his role in the Disney+ series. It would not be the first time Holland would not return for an animated project starring Spider-Man, as the actor did not voice the Web-Head in the first season of What If...? (Hudson Thames did the voice work for that series.)

The report comes as Holland's future in the larger MCU remains shrouded in mystery. The actor, as well as various executives, offered conflicting comments about Spider-Man's MCU future, leading to confusion among fans. The latest comments came from Sony chairman Tom Rothman, who said, "We hope to get working on the next Spider-Man movie." When asked if Holland, director Jon Watts and co-star Zendaya would return, he replied, "that whole group, we hope."

Spider-Man: Freshman Year was announced in November 2021 on Disney+ Day. The series will follow Peter Parker in his early days as Spider-Man, suggesting that the show will take place before his debut in Captain America: Civil War and explore his comic book origin story, something that the movies have only hinted at so far. The animation for the series will also "celebrates the character’s early comic book roots." Jeff Trammel will serve as head writer.

Freshman Year joins a growing list of Marvel Studios animated projects, which also include What If...? Season 2, Marvel Zombies and X-Men '97. An additional series following What If...?'s Star-Lord T'Challa was previously in the works but was scrapped after Chadwick Boseman passed away. More details on all these series are expected to be announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, which will feature a panel with Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television and Animation Brad Winderbaum and Head of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding.

Tom Holland made his debut as Spider-Man in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. Since then, he has become one of the most popular and beloved characters in the MCU, appearing in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019). He also starred in his trilogy of solo films based in the MCU: Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

Adam Scott's Madame Web Role Could Bring a Fan-Favorite Spider-Verse Character to Live-Action

Madame Web already has a star-studded cast, despite not much being clear about the film's direction or plot. The newest actor to join the movie is Adam Scott, but his exact role is also a mystery. However, he could be playing a friendly yet jaded neighborhood role.

With his appearance and general acting abilities, Scott would be perfect as the live-action version of Peter B. Parker. This incarnation of Spider-Man debuted in the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, but he could be making his live-action debut in Madame Web. Here's how Scott could be the perfect Spider-Man in the film's tangled cast web.

Could Adam Scott Be Playing Peter B. Parker in Madame Web?

Peter B. Parker first appeared in Into the Spider-Verse, voiced by Jake Johnson. It was a somewhat failed version of the hero who had fallen into a great depression after his Aunt May's death and divorcing his wife Mary Jane for her own safety. His appearance had become more disheveled, with his five o'clock shadow and coat making him look especially downtrodden. Needless to say, he wasn't the same joke-cracking Spidey that he was in his youth.

Recently, reports claim that the Madame Web movie isn't really a Madame Web movie and that the current title might be a ruse. If so, it could be a live-action equivalent to Into the Spider-Verse, with a few of the already announced leading ladies playing characters like Spider-Gwen or other heroines. If that animated movie really is the blueprint for this one, it has to have its own Spider-Man showing up somewhere. Thus, Peter B. Parker is perfect for the film and might be the character that Scott is playing.

Adam Scott Is Perfect For the Downtrodden Peter B. Parker

As shown in shows such as Parks and Rec and Party Down and films such as Hot Tub Time Machine 2, Scott has a lot of quippy, comedic talent. When combined with his sometimes aloof yet smug charm, it's easy to see him in the role of Peter Parker, namely Peter B. Parker. Likewise, his recent award-winning role in Severance shows that he could also portray the sadness of this Spidey. That balance between humor and humanity is integral to Spider-Man, as it makes him more relatable than other heroes.

If Spider-Man appears in Madame Web, he may only have a minimal role, but this would actually work in Scott's favor. He wouldn't have to commit to the physicality of playing Spider-Man, all while still giving the movie its Spidey. That would also leave Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield untouched for future multiverse projects. That's especially important if Sony's Spider-Man Universe is canon with The Amazing Spider-Man movies. Ironically, Maguire was an option to voice Peter B. Parker in Into the Spider-Verse, but the idea got rejected. With the Sony Spider-Man Universe needing an actual Spider-Man, Adam Scott may be the actor to fill the tights.

To see who Adam Scott plays, Madame Web weaves into theaters July 7, 2023.

7 New Spider-Man: No Way Home Photos Show Tobey & Andrew On Set

Spider-Man: No Way Home hasn't lost one bit of steam since its theatrical debut in December 2021, as it still serves as a major topic of conversation for movie fans. That tends to happen with a film that brings in heroes and villains from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's Spidey stories, fully introducing MCU fans to the Multiverse in the process.

Rumors pointed to Maguire and Garfield being involved with the production more than a year ahead of its debut, which came on top of reports that revealed five of their respective franchises' villains would also come to the MCU. Naturally, this led to a level of hype never seen for any MCU solo movie in history as fans waited to find out what would really come to the big screen for Marvel Studios.

The Spider-Man threequel utilized Maguire and Garfield's stories to perfection while integrating them with Tom Holland's latest solo journey, all leading to Holland becoming the quintessential web-slinger. Now, ahead of the movie's home release, fans are getting an incredible look at the heroic trio along with more characters and moments from this blockbuster.

Tobey, Andrew, & Tom Assemble for Spider-Man 3

Sony Pictures released a 55-second preview for the home release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which featured looks at Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, and more from the film's set. The film will be available via digital release on March 22, and its physical media release will come on April 12.

Tom Holland and Zendaya stand on top of the Queensboro Bridge set from the film as they pose and laugh together. This comes from the movie's opening scene when the real-life power couple swings away from the crowd of onlookers harassing Peter Parker after his identity is revealed.

Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, and Willem Dafoe stand together in front of a white screen for promotional pictures in their villain costumes. Although Electro, Doc Ock, and the Green Goblin caused mayhem at every turn for the Spider-Men and crew, the actors are having the time of their lives on set as they smile and laugh during their poses.

One of the most historic moments in superhero movie history is teased with an image of all three cinematic Spider-Man standing side-by-side for a picture together. Tom Holland poses in between Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as they don their maskless Spidey suits, bringing an image to life that seemed nearly impossible before Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield sits down for a behind-the-scenes interview in the Midtown Tech science lab as he shares inside information about his return to the role. Making his third appearance as Peter Parker and his first in the MCU, Garfield's insight will be pure gold in regards to learning how this adventure came to life.

The three Spider-Man actors share a laugh with each other as they recreate the classic "Spider-Man pointing" meme for the recently released still image. Clearly, this moment was as much fun for the trio to make as it was for fans to lay their eyes on.

Tom Holland lies on his side and strikes a pose while donning his Spider-Man suit in what appears to be the hallway of Happy Hogan's apartment complex. This moment was much more fun behind-the-scenes, seeing as his hero was in the middle of an intense battle with the Green Goblin on this set in the movie itself.

Alfred Molina waves his arms and sticks out his tongue in front of a blue screen as he brings Doctor Otto Octavius back to the big screen for the first time since 2004's Spider-Man 2. The actor is known for having a blast making his movies, as seen by his Fiddler on the Roof moment nearly two decades ago, and he seems to be enjoying every moment with Marvel Studios.

Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield share a smile and an embrace as they shoot their final Spider-Man: No Way Home moments together. Maguire's arm is draped over Garfield's shoulder as the actors soak up the moment, with Garfield seemingly taking in something hilarious from his Spidey predecessor.

The three Spider-Man actors all carry flowers and exchange hugs with each other while director Jon Watts and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige look on. Fans can see the emotion on Holland's face as he reminisces on the incredible experience he had alongside Maguire and Garfield.

Holland and his fellow Spider-Man actors share a hearty laugh alongside Zendaya and Jacob Batalon as they film the scene where they develop the villains' cures. Whether this came after Ned promised not to turn into a supervillain and try to kill Peter is a mystery, but it's certainly an option for what could be happening here.

Willem Dafoe dons his upgraded Green Goblin costume with the purple hoodie as he throws a pumpkin bomb forward for a promo shot. 20 years after first portraying Norman Osborn, Dafoe got the chance to bring an even scarier version of the antagonist as he looked to conquer a new Spider-Man.

Tobey Maguire stands in his Spider-Man outfit without the classic mask as he poses for still images. Having been the first actor to bring Peter Parker to a live-action blockbuster movie, Maguire came full circle by reprising the role in the MCU 14 years later.

Behind The Scenes of a Spider-Man Blockbuster

With nearly an hour and a half of extra footage coming with Spider-Man: No Way Home's home release, fans will have their hands full with looks into how Marvel and Sony pulled this movie off. The best part of this is that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be front and center in this new footage after stealing the show in the threequel's third act.

Both Multiversal Spidey actors will have the opportunity to discuss their MCU arrivals, with Garfield already teasing how insane it was for him to find himself in this massively ambitious solo movie. Along with other interviews from Holland, Feige, and other top-notch personnel on No Way Home, there will be no shortage of thrilling material for fans to take in.

Even considering how crazy the No Way Home hype got in the months leading up to its debut, Marvel and Sony somehow exceeded the anticipation by bringing Garfield and Maguire's worlds into play. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is looking to top that excitement in the near future, but it was Spider-Man who opened the door to Multiversal madness in Phase 4.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is still playing in theaters. It will be available for purchase digitally on March 22, and its physical media release will come on April 12.
